- Choosing the wrong size unit
Bigger is not always better and that saying applies to the HVAC unit you choose to replace your old one with. Some companies will automatically recommend the biggest unit they have or replacing it with the same size you previously had. Both of these can cause you problems down the long run if they are not the size your home or office needs. You need a company that will take all the necessary measurements and calculations to replace your old unit with a new one that is the right size.
2. Poor air distribution design
Your HVAC unit only does half of the job of heating or cooling your house. The other half comes from your duct system and for that to work properly, it has to be designed correctly for the space. Some contractors will just use the old duct system from the previous unit for a shortcut to finish the job. In most cases, the ductwork needs to be changed to ensure there are no leaks and that it is the right size for the new unit.
3. Poorly designed drain systems
HVAC units can create a lot of waste water which will need to properly be disposed of away from the unit itself. If this portion of the installation is done wrong, your space can end up with water leaks and in the winter, water backup can create freezing pipes that have the potential to burst. Both of these instances can end up costing you a ton of money to either fix the problem or replace it entirely.
