1. It’s Not Blowing Cool Air

This one is kind of a no-brainer. If your central air is not working and isn’t blowing cool air, it’s a good sign you need an HVAC professional.

If you have it on full blast and it’s blowing air that’s not very cold or even hot, you could have a problem with the compressor or a lack of freon.

2. Strange Sounds and Strange Smells 

Air conditioners aren’t silent. You can usually hear them kick on and hear the low hum in the background when they’re running, but that’s it.

There shouldn’t be any loud noises, squealing, grating, or grinding. Strange noises could indicate that a belt is loose or out of place, that metal components need to be lubricated, or that the bearings in your motor are not working properly.

While they aren’t silent, air conditioners shouldn’t smell. If you notice any strange smells, you need to have it checked out. It could be that the wiring is burning or that there is mold or mildew in the ducts.
