There’s no denying that the weather gets hotter every year lately. These days, you feel like you’re melting as soon as you step outside!

You’re not imagining things either; it’s getting hotter every year! Surveys from some parts of the United States show a whopping 2° C increase in temperature from the average temperatures in 1895.

One of the best ways to beat the heat is the sweet comfort of your air conditioning system… or is it an HVAC system?

If you’re a bit confused about the difference between the two, don’t worry because we have you covered! Keep reading to learn the differences between an AC system and an HVAC system.

What Is an Air Conditioning (Ac) System?

Even now, not every home in America has air conditioning. Recent surveys show that about 10% of American families have no form of air conditioning in their home at all! As the global temperature continues to climb, it’s important to bring that number up to 100%.

Air conditioning systems help cool your house by taking the warm air in the room and removing the heat before blowing it back into the room. Air conditioners don’t use any kind of ducting or furnace to do this. Because of that, air conditioners are pretty self-contained.

These are the two types of air conditioning systems you can buy:

Split (Or Ductless) Systems

A split system air conditioner is compact and has one section outside of the home to bring in cool air, then another section inside the home to blow the cool air inside. These systems are more efficient than the window units, but nowhere near as efficient as a system that uses ductwork in your home.

Window Air Conditioning Unit

One of the least expensive types of air conditioning is the unit that sits on your window sill. These only work for the room they’re in, so you’ll need to put one in every room in your house. Also, window unit air conditioners aren’t very energy efficient.

What Is an HVAC System?

Ok, so we know what an air conditioner is, but what does HVAC stand for? Well… heating, ventilation, and air conditioning!

This is an all-in-one climate control system that uses ducts and your furnace to cool air when it’s hot outside, move air around inside to prevent mold, and heat air when it’s cold outside. The only downsides here are the initial price tag and the larger size of the units. They’re very efficient, so you should see some of that money come back to you as energy bill savings over time.

Don’t Let the Summer Heat Make You Lose Your Cool

Now that you know the differences between an AC system and an HVAC system, you can make an educated decision about which to choose for your home. Either way, both of these systems can keep you cool in the summer heat.
