We all make mistakes. Hiring the wrong person or company can happen easily and what works for one person might not work for another. In some cases, companies are simply not very legitimate. Have you hired someone you aren’t sure is going to work out or are you in the middle of trying to find a reputable HVAC company? To help you out, make sure you know these six signs that you’ve gone with the wrong AC repair company (or are about too).

#1: They show up late without calling

This might not seem like a big deal to some people, but a technician who shows up late and does not give the customer a courtesy call shows a lack of professionalism. This is especially true if they don’t even apologize for not calling or don’t give a legitimate reason. It might mean they don’t take other parts of their job very seriously as well, and this could have an adverse impact on your heating and cooling system.

#2: They are hard to reach

If it’s hard to schedule or reschedule appointments, definitely think about going with another HVAC company. It should not be difficult for you to reach someone to set up an appointment or ask about a repair or cost. Good companies have knowledgeable and friendly customer service professionals that are quick to respond.

#3: They don’t give direct answers to your questions

A reputable AC repair company will answer questions and be able to explain what they are doing. They are used to speaking to customers who don’t have much knowledge about the HVAC unit so they take their time explaining issues and should address any of your concerns. If you don’t feel comfortable asking questions or they don’t answer your questions with clarity, it could be a sign to find someone else.

#4: The AC repair keeps coming back

A big sign that you have picked the wrong company is if they just don’t do a good job. If the same problem keeps arising and it is not being fixed with little explanation, get a second opinion. It’s one thing if a company has told you the system needs to be replaced and you want to fix it one more time, or if they explain to you that something should work but call them immediately if you still have problems, but constant AC repairs without explanation is a red flag.

#5: They can’t be found online

Nowadays, legitimate companies will have some sort of online presence. Some companies will be better at this than others, but if you can’t find anything at all online, you might want to look at other HVAC companies. If they don’t want to be found, it could mean they don’t have very happy customers.

#6: They only take cash

This is an enormous red flag. If a company only takes cash, they do not want to be tracked. They can leave you with a terrible job, and when you try to get them to come back and fix it, you won’t be able to prove anything. A reputable HVAC company will accept different forms of payment and invoices.
