Check for Frozen Coils

If your HVAC unit is not working properly and is in need of coolant, then it could freeze over in the inside and the outside unit. Do a quick check by removing the air filter and checking the coils for frost. If the coils are frozen, it’ll be noticeable as soon as you look at them.

Check the inside and the outside for this problem. If the coils are frozen, your HVAC could be having trouble keeping your home cool as well.

Check for Dirty Coils

If the coils aren’t frozen, then the next step is to check them for any built-up dirt or dust. Be sure to check the filter for this as well. If a filter goes a long time without being changed out, it could begin to accumulate dust and dirt.

The coils will begin to do the same. Change out the filter if needed. If the coils are dirty, then you’ll want to be sure to clean them thoroughly.

Check the Drains for Clogs

When drain pipes become clogged, they can also cause the HVAC unit to leak. If you’re able to spot a clog in the drainpipe, then you can use a wet vac to remove the clog. Simply place the wet vac hose on the pipe and suck out the clog.

While there, be sure to check the drain for any signs of damages as well. If the pipe is disconnected, then this might also be a cause for a leak.
